About Kate
My story starts with my grandpa bringing me to the Philadelphia Art Museum. We would go through all the different styles and time periods, picking out our favorite pieces and scratching our heads on the ones that just didn’t speak to us. That opened up my eyes to the possibilities art can give someone.
A couple years later, I felt my first love towards photography flipping through my mom’s fashion magazines. There was something so enchanting and elegant in the composed fashion images, something that reminded me of all the old paintings I saw at the art museum. After that, every time my dad would break out his Canon film camera for family photos, I’d always want a turn to use it, just to give it a try. It amazed me that one image can bring to surface so many emotions and memories.
It took awhile, but I finally realized this was my calling mid-way through college. I wanted to be able to compose art that would be meaningful to the many people I met. I switched my major and ventured into band and musician photography, always being a big music fan, as well as fashion photography, constantly trying to recreate the master photographers in Vogue and Vanity Fair. I finally fell into wedding photography when a member of the choir I just photographed told me he was getting married and wanted me to cover it. I’ve never looked back.
My unique style of photography is combining elegant photojournalism with a fashion-minded twist. I developed this signature style from years assisting some of the best photojournalists in Philadelphia, including Jeremy Evan Thomas, as well as perfecting my fashion eye with a wonderful network of models, photographers, and stylists in the Delaware Valley.
As of 2010, my photography has been featured in Delaware Bride, Main Line Today, 55 Hours Weekly, Around Main Line, the Wilmington Art Crawl, the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, as well as various art galleries and publications. I’m a proud member of the Professional Photographers of America and the American Society of Media Photographers.
